 RFF Africa 2018: Investing in Responsible Finance and Innovation for Africa’s Digital Economies

The 9th Annual Responsible Finance Forum: Investing in Responsible Finance and Innovation for Africa’s Digital Economies (RFF Africa 2018), was held on October 2, 2018 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.  This year’s Forum was a continuation of prior Annual Global and Regional Events and focused on Africa’s evolving digital finance landscape. The Forum brought together leading investors, industry, policymakers, practitioners and innovators and addressed critical challenges facing Africa today and its unique potential to accelerate investments in responsible digital financial services.  Participants engaged with global networks and Africa’s local practitioners about recent initiatives, evolving business models and technology solutions together with leading Signatories of the recently launched Guidelines for Investing in Responsible Digital Financial Services.

 

RFF 2017  | Berlin, Germany

The Eighth Annual Responsible Finance Forum was hosted on April 27-28 by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), preceding the Forum and Plenary of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) on 2-4 May 2017 in Berlin. The Forum is co-organized by The Better Than Cash Alliance, Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, International Finance Cooperation (IFC), United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the World Bank. Discussions focused on customer data protection and privacy issues against the background of the continuous, rapid digitization in the financial sector and the changing landscape of financial service providers.  Read More…

RFF 2014 | Perth, Australia

The fifth annual Responsible Finance Forum took place on August 28-29, 2014 in Perth, Australia, convening over 100 industry, government and private sector leaders to discuss how digital financial services can be delivered in a transparent, fair and safe manner. Focusing exclusively on the use of technology to provide financial services and products for the poor, the Forum enabled participants to share specific approaches that private and public sector actors can take to address emerging risks from the expansion of digital financial services. RFF 2013 | Berlin, Germany

The fourth Responsible Finance Forum (RFF IV) was hosted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) on 24th to 25th June 2013 in Berlin. The fourth RFF was organized in collaboration with the Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii), the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the International Labour Office (ILO), the Microinsurance Network, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and Munich Re Foundation. RFF 2012 | Washington, DC

The third Responsible Finance Forum (RFF III) was hosted by IFC in Washington D.C. on April 23, 2012. It convened nearly 200 participants from the financial sector, bilateral and multilateral donors, investors and the broader international community. For the first time, the full-day event, coordinated with BMZ, CGAP, Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) brought together leaders from the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion, World Bank Group, IMF and prominent private sector representatives (AMK, Banco de Oro, Equity Bank, Grupo ACP, HDFC, MicroCred, OpenRevolution, ParaLife, Sanasa, Shorebank, and others) to share experiences in putting responsible finance into action. RFF 2011 | The Hague, Netherlands

xian_montageThe second Responsible Finance Forum (RFF II) was organized by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, jointly with Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima of the Netherlands in het capacity as UNSG’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, BMZ, CGAP, and IFC. Recent microfinance crises had underscored the need for appropriate products, practices and policies to protect and positively impact the end-users of microfinance. Collective action of MFIs, industry associations, national regulators, donors and investors was urgent.

RFF 2010 | Berlin, Germany

The first Responsible Finance Forum (RFF I) was organized in 2010 and, for the first time, it established an informal Community of Practice (COP) to improve cooperation and share expertise and knowledge on the emerging concept of responsible finance. The Community of Practice aimed to be an informal community of investors, donors, microfinance asset managers, financial service providers, practitioners and experts on financial services, sharing a common vision for a fair and customer-centric delivery of financial services. The Responsible Finance Forum for India (RFF India), founded in 2011, is an independent voluntary body promoting responsible finance among financial inclusion sector participants. RFF India is the first multi-stakeholder body in the country, having representations from various stakeholder groups like Microfinance Institutions (MFIs), Business Correspondents (BCs), multilateral and bi-lateral organizations, industry associations, networks, lenders, investors and think tanks.
